Knock at the right unmarked door on Jalan Tukad Pingai and walk into a 1930s London gaming room with cocktails in teapots.
The Shady Fox occupies the second floor of an unmarked building on Jalan Tukad Pingai in Pererenan, above the Red Gunpowder restaurant. Finding the right door is the opening act; Time Out Bali lists the search as part of the experience.
The fiction is specific: London in the 1930s, inside the Shady Family's clandestine gambling operation, with classic card games running and cocktails arriving in teapots. It is the third room from the team behind Seminyak's Shady Flamingo and Berawa's Shady Pig.
Who would hate it? Anyone who finds themed service exhausting. The staff stay in story, and the room expects you to play along.
Up the hidden stairs the room turns to dark wood, baize tables, and lamp lit corners staged as an illegal gaming den. Bali Buddies counts it among the island's best hidden speakeasies, and DJs run an eclectic mix of house, soul, and underground sets nightly.
The signature Queen of Hearts builds distilled berry gin with cherry liquor, clarified lime, and red wine; Grace's Secret blends black pepper infused Monkey Shoulder with orgeat and lemon. Serves arrive in teapots and hover around IDR 150k.
Order the Queen of Hearts on a first visit and a table side card game with it. Skip Monday entirely; the room runs Tuesday through Sunday, 7pm to 3am.
Pererenan's dinner crowd drifts up after plates downstairs, joined by Canggu expats and travellers who booked the door time. Tripadvisor reviewers call it the best speakeasy in Pererenan, and weekends run full from 10pm.
