The W's beachfront sunset institution closed in September 2025 for a full rebuild. Here is what it was, and what replaces it.
Woobar anchored the beachfront of W Bali Seminyak on Jalan Petitenget from the hotel's March 2011 opening, pouring sundowners a few steps from Petitenget Beach. For most of fifteen years it ran the island's most reliable sunset session, 4pm DJs rolling into late club nights in the basement room, Woobase.
It closed on September 21, 2025 after a farewell set by Jody Wisternoff, billed by Asia Dreams as the send off before a daring makeover.
Marriott has since removed Woobar from the resort's venue list, and the venue's social channels now carry the name Alunê, a three level relaunch with culinary direction by Jules Winckler.
The indoor bar sat washed in amber light among coral shaped cocktail tables, per Asia Dreams, opening to a beachfront deck, pools lined with daybeds, and a rooftop event space for a hundred. Skylights lit the Woobase dance floor below.
The final menu ran 16 signatures across Fresh, Fruity, Witty, and Bold categories by head mixologist Wayan Agus Wiyantara, from roughly 180,000 rupiah. The Zero Waste series rebuilt surplus breakfast ingredients, coconut, rice, and banana, into cocktails.
Daybeds carried minimum spends near 2.8 million rupiah, and Monday ran a two for one window from 7pm, per Best Beach Clubs Bali and venue listings.
Hotel guests and Seminyak regulars built the 4 to 6pm peak around the Sundown Society sessions; hotels.com's guide promised front row Indian Ocean sunsets and late DJs. Best Beach Clubs Bali pushed back, scoring it 57 of 100 and finding it often quiet outside event nights at those prices.
