Iron Balls is Thailand's first dedicated gin distillery, run from a Thonglor parlour with a serious cocktail bar attached. The distillery makes a single gin — a Thai-botanical London Dry — and the bar's programme is built around it.
The distillery itself is visible behind a glass wall at the back of the parlour. The single gin (Iron Balls London Dry) uses thirteen Thai botanicals (lemongrass, kaffir lime, galangal, fresh coconut) on a wheat-spirit base. The bar's signature serve is the Iron Balls Martini — Iron Balls gin, a half-spoon of dry vermouth, lemon twist — and it is one of the better botanically-led martinis in Asia.
The cocktail list runs to twenty drinks, all built around Iron Balls gin. The G&T programme alone has eight variations using different tonics and garnishes; the kaffir-lime G&T is the best entry point. Beyond gin, the bar carries a small selection of premium spirits and a respectable wine list, but everyone is here for the gin.
Iron Balls works best as the early-evening cocktail stop before dinner. 6pm to 9pm is the right window. Cocktails are mid-tier for Thonglor pricing (THB 380-450) and the room is small enough to feel intimate. Reservations are recommended for weekend evenings.
Best time to visit: Weekday evenings before 9pm for a quieter version of the room; weekends after 9pm for the busier one. Reservations recommended where the bar accepts them.
