Kilkenny Irish Pub has worked the arches of the Hackescher Markt S Bahn station since 1992, an institution wedged under the viaduct in the middle of Mitte. Three rooms each carry several televisions, and the official programme runs Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, Bundesliga, rugby and GAA.

The music calendar is the other engine. Live bands play Thursday through Sunday nights, Monday is open mic, and the front terrace works the square in summer.

The Guinness draws the strongest reviews, with Google regulars comparing the pour favorably to Dublin, though at 9 euro a pint Tripadvisor's grumbles about pricing have a point. The kitchen runs Irish breakfast through loaded nachos and mac and cheese.

The crowd mixes tourists off the S Bahn with Mitte regulars and homesick Irish, and big fixtures pack all three rooms. Staff hold the screens for the headline football, so rugby fans should confirm their match gets a screen before settling in.

Saturday afternoons stack Premier League and Bundesliga across three rooms, then the band takes over at 9.30pm. Stake a table by 3pm for the full run.
