A red-fronted Italian enoteca on the Westbourne Grove corner of Portobello Road, part owned by Tuscany's Avignonesi winery.

It worked as an enoteca, part wine shop and part bar, part owned by Tuscany's revered Avignonesi winery. The hook was the list: the team said roughly 60 percent of its wines were available only through them in the UK.

The room ran on small plates and conversation. Time Out and Londonist both covered it as a relaxed, cozy place to drink seriously good Italian wine without ceremony, with couples and small groups working through bottles and boards.

The Westbourne Grove enoteca is now closed. The profile stays live as a record. For the city's current rooms, see our 10 best wine bars in London and the London wine bar guide.

The space was small and warm, styled like a continental wine shop you could sit down in. Bottles lined the walls, tables filled the floor, and the red exterior made it one of the more recognizable corners on Portobello Road.

The Wine Sleuth and Londonist both described the feel as close to drinking at home, relaxed rather than formal, with the staff happy to steer you through unfamiliar Italian producers.
