Lost and Found

Hidden Gems $$

Lost and Found sits on Taraval Street in the Parkside without much fanfare and delivers more than most bars that announce themselves loudly. The bar program comes from industry veterans who chose the outer Sunset on purpose, and the room is warm and low lit. The regulars are Sunset locals who have claimed their stools, and visiting drinkers who find the place tend to become regulars themselves.

The cocktail list is built around San Francisco landmarks, and the names are earned rather than cute. The Grant Avenue Old Fashioned runs spirit forward, the Great Highway Sour balances smoke against fruit, and the Mission Dolores Margarita carries pineapple and a quiet chili heat. Most drinks land in the $14 to $17 range, which is honest for this level of execution in San Francisco.

Lost and Found gives the outer Sunset a proper cocktail room without asking the neighborhood to dress up for it. If you want the louder version of this energy, Trick Dog across town in the Mission makes a fine second act on another night. The full San Francisco hidden gems guide covers more of the city's best kept secrets across all neighborhoods.

Tuesday through Thursday evenings are the sweet spot, and the bar stays closed on Mondays. Wednesday through Saturday it runs until 2am and fills after 9pm, at which point the room feels more like a neighborhood party than a cocktail destination. What to order

  • 01

    Grant Avenue Old Fashioned

Spirit forward and exact, the anchor of the landmark menu. Order it first and judge the room by it.

  • 02

    Great Highway Sour

Smoke balanced against fruit, named for the road at the western end of the city. The list's quiet standout.

  • 03

    Mission Dolores Margarita

Herradura Blanco with pineapple, cilantro, and birds eye chili. The sleeper hit of the menu.
