California Cantina is Santiago's default answer to a specific question: where can eleven people watch three different games until 4:30 in the morning? Two floors, a terrace, a karaoke stage, a wall of screens running soccer, NFL, NBA, and rugby, and a draft line the house claims is among the longest in the city. One TripAdvisor reviewer titled their writeup Best Sports Bar in South America, which is exuberant but directionally correct.
It is the exact opposite number to La Piojera: where the old picada sells a century of Chilean character by the terremoto, the Cantina sells California by the bucket of wings, and both rooms are entirely sincere about it. Google reviewers note the prices run high for the category. They also keep coming back, nearly 6,000 reviews deep.
The happy hour runs seven days a week, and Thursday through Saturday the doors stay open until 4:30am, which in Providencia is a public service.
The room is cheerfully maximal: California decor, a bear logo, screens in every sightline across both levels, and a terrace for the smokers and the overflow. Karaoke takes the stage on quieter nights. Nobody has ever called it subtle, including the owners.
The crowd mixes expats, travelers, and Providencia locals, and swells for Champions League, Clasico Universitario, the Super Bowl, and NBA playoffs, all advertised on the bar's own events calendar. Google's data shows typical stays of two to four hours, which matches a full match plus extra time and penalties.
Wanderlog's aggregate calls the service excellent and the atmosphere lively, with the price caveat attached. On Sundays the room opens at 12:30pm for the early kickoffs, the calmest version of the place.
