Handlebar at Turf City is the city's biker-themed craft-beer bar — a giant indoor-outdoor space with twenty taps, a stage for live music, and a kitchen running smoked meats out of a working barbecue pit. The format is unique and the execution is more serious than the theme suggests.
The room is a converted Turf City stable building. Outdoor seating fronts a parking area where motorcycles cluster on weekends; indoor seating runs back through a long barn-shape with the bar on one side and the kitchen at the back. The crowd is mixed motorcyclist and Bukit Timah resident; weekend evenings get loud, weekday afternoons are quiet enough for a conversation.
The tap list runs to twenty beers, leaning local craft (Brewerkz, Archipelago, Yardley) and US imports (Stone, Sierra Nevada, occasional one-off cans). The Handlebar IPA — a private-label beer brewed for the bar by a local craft brewery — is the house strongest order. The barbecue programme is the food draw: brisket, pulled pork, ribs, all smoked on-site, sold by weight.
Handlebar is the right call for a long Sunday afternoon. Tap list, smoked meats, occasional live music, and a low-pressure crowd. Not a destination for the cocktail-led drinker; absolutely a destination for craft-beer-and-barbecue.
Best time to visit: Weekday evenings before 9pm for the quieter version of the room; weekends after 9pm for the busier one. Reservations recommended where the bar accepts them.
