Jimmy Glass has run jazz at Calle Baja 28 in El Carmen since 1991. DownBeat magazine put it on its list of the world's best jazz clubs in February 2018, the only Valencia room to make the cut.
The programming does the talking. The club stages four concerts most weeks: international acts Monday through Wednesday, then singing duos, jam sessions and piano nights through the weekend.
Midweek tickets cost 13 euros. The weekend sessions are free until the room fills.
A narrow club hung with decades of posters, built for listening rather than lounging.
Tripadvisor reviewers flag tight seating and limited sightlines from some tables. Arrive before the first set and the problem disappears.
Jazz fans, conservatory students and working musicians. The club's own history page calls it the favorite spot for Valencia jazz players, and the bandstand traffic backs the claim.
Concert nights run Monday through Saturday from 8pm. Call +34 656 89 01 43 or check the published calendar before crossing town.
Calle Baja threads the middle of El Carmen; Radio City and the Carmen bar spine sit within four blocks.
