The 8 best hidden gem bars in Belgrade, from a Skadarlija speakeasy with no menu to a Dorcol courtyard. Where to find them and the one drink to order.

The short answer

Our editors' №1 is Prohibicija.

8 ranked rooms follow. How we picked is at the end of this guide.

The 8 best hidden gem bars in Belgrade hide behind unmarked doors, down Dorcol courtyards, and under the old town, the rooms locals keep for themselves. We read each by the bar first: how the cocktails get built, the spirit the room leans on, and the one drink to order. Belgrade rewards the wanderer who rings the bell and walks down the stairs. Start where the bartender builds the drink around your taste.

The speakeasies and secret rooms

Four rooms hide behind doors and down stairs, the cocktail dens locals name before tourists find them.

Editor's №1

Prohibicija

Prohibicija reads as a window from Karadjordjeva street, then opens into a Savamala room dressed for the 1920s, bartenders in period waistcoats included. The cocktails nod to the classics with a Serbian turn, poured over jazz and swing that slide into something newer as the night builds. Best as a first drink before the Savamala clubs. Order a classic and let the room set the tempo.

Riddle Bar

Riddle hides near Skadarlija behind an unmarked door and a doorbell, a dim room of soft light and rich wood. There is no menu: tell the bartender a mood and a flavor, and a cocktail is built to it. It placed 488th on the 2025 Top 500 Bars list, the rare Serbian entry. Best for a couple who want the drink made for them. Book ahead at weekends.

Tube

Tube has run Belgrade's underground since 2007, a long basement with a 23-meter dance floor and a booth that has hosted Ben Klock and Solomun. Fridays lean techno, Saturdays toward funk and disco house. The drinks stay simple and the focus is the floor. Best for those who treat a night out as a set, not a sit-down. Come late; nothing starts early here.

Witch Bar

Witch Bar sits on Pariska 13 above Kalemegdan, a witch-themed room with a view of the fortress and more than 100 cocktails on the list. The drinks come named for the theme and sized from a glass to three liters. Best for an early-evening drink before the park empties, or a themed night later on. Order from the signature list and take the terrace view.

Smokvica Dorcol

Smokvica began as a hidden courtyard terrace in Gornji Dorcol and still feels like a secret, set in a 1904 house built by Serbia's first woman architect. A fig tree gives the place its name and its shade. The list runs to fresh juices, wine and easy cocktails alongside Mediterranean plates. Best for a slow afternoon that drifts into evening. Take a table under the tree.

Black Turtle Pub

Black Turtle is Belgrade's veteran brewpub, brewing since 2010 from its own brewery near Sid, with five rooms around the city. The standards are a Pils and a Stout, but the fruit beers, strawberry and blueberry, are the talking point, and a pint runs around 200 dinars. The second site is a cozy basement near the center. Best for a relaxed beer night with a small crowd.

Question Mark (?)

Question Mark, or Znak Pitanja, has poured since 1823, the oldest kafana in Belgrade and a protected monument since 2007. The low white house near the cathedral keeps its wooden windows, traditional Balkan plates and starogradska music. Order a rakija and a slow meal and you drink two centuries of the city. Best for a first night in Belgrade, or a last one. Lunch is quieter than night.

Mikser House

Mikser House has anchored Savamala's creative scene since 2012, a warehouse that folds a design shop, a cantina bar and a stage for talks, exhibitions and parties under one roof. The 2026 calendar still lists concerts most weeks. The drinks are secondary to the program, which is the point. Best for a night that pairs a gig or a show with a drink. Check what is on before you go.

Sofia Reeves re-checked all eight rooms against current sources in June 2026; each is open and trading. She reads a bar by its craft first: how the room is built, the spirit it leans on, and the one drink worth ordering.
