Rooftop Bar Boom: Top 2026 Cities Ranked

Rooftop bars are the fastest expanding format in the bar world, and the map of where they cluster is shifting. Dubai leads our index with 17 tracked rooftops, built on a skyline made for them. Istanbul and Athens follow on 14, both trading on old cities seen from above.

The demand behind the count is real. The global rooftop bar market was worth 8.2 billion dollars in 2024 and is projected to reach 16.9 billion by 2033, a compound growth rate of 8.5 percent per MarketIntelo. Rooftop venues have grown about 25 percent worldwide since 2019.

Why Asia Pacific is the engine

The steepest growth is not at the top of our current table. Asia Pacific is projected to post the highest regional growth rate at 11.2 percent a year, led by Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo and Shanghai per MarketIntelo. Bangkok already tracks 10 rooftops in our index, and the demand around it runs hotter than the count alone shows.

That fits the wider market. The global pubs, bars and nightclubs sector keeps expanding into premium formats per The Business Research Company, and operators lean on rooftops to lift spend per head, a pattern Toast tracks across the bar industry.

"The rooftop market is set to nearly double by 2033. The cities adding fastest are not the ones leading today. They are in Asia."

Where to drink above the city now

For the current leaders, the rooms live up to the ranking. Dubai stacks sky lounges down the Marina and Downtown. Istanbul pairs Bosphorus views with old-city rooftops, and Athens looks straight at the Acropolis from a dozen terraces.

The clearest riser is Bangkok. Its rooftop demand sits well ahead of its tracked count, which is why we cover it in depth on the Bangkok rooftop bars page and in our best rooftop bars in Bangkok guide. Methodology

Dataset. barsforkings.com master index, bars-master-72-cities.csv. We count bars in the rooftop-bars category per city, 490 rooftop bars in total across 176 cities. Pulled June 2026. Cities shown carry at least 5 tracked rooftops.

Method. The ranking is current tracked rooftop coverage per city, an editorial density measure. We do not claim a year-over-year openings figure per city and label the table as current coverage.

External sources. Market size, growth rate and regional trend from MarketIntelo, with the sector picture from The Business Research Company and Toast, all linked inline. No growth percentage was attributed to a city without a cited source.
