The 6 Best Live Music Bars in Helsinki

The 6 best live music bars in Helsinki, from Tavastia and Bar Loose to On the Rocks and Kuudes Linja. Ranked by the room and the bill. Updated 2026.

The short answer

Our editors' №1 is Tavastia Club.

6 ranked rooms follow. How we picked is at the end of this guide.

Runner-upBar Loose
Third pickOn the Rocks

Helsinki runs on rock and jazz more than on cocktails, and its best music rooms are bars first and rooms second. We judged these on the stage, the bill and whether the beer holds up while the band plays.

Six made the cut, from the legendary Tavastia to the underground floor of Kuudes Linja in Kallio. Our full Helsinki live music bars list and the wider live music bars worldwide guide go deeper, and the Helsinki bar guide covers the rest of the city.

The Seven Worth the Cover

Editor's №1

Tavastia Club

Tavastia opened in 1970 and is among Helsinki's oldest working clubs, 700 capacity, the room that breaks Finnish rock. The 2026 bill runs from Asa to Armand Hammer. It is a gig hall with a bar, not a place to nurse a cocktail. Get there for doors if the act has a following. Best on a night the booking is a name you came for.

Bar Loose

Bar Loose holds a Kamppi basement and a red-lit upstairs, one of Helsinki's hardest-working rock addresses. The downstairs stage books local and touring bands most nights, from Waltari to recurring club nights. Beer and a shot is the order here. The crowd skews rock and the volume runs high. Best late, when the band is on and the room is full.

On the Rocks

On the Rocks runs at Mikonkatu 15 in the center, a music lounge and live club with programming most weeks. The bill mixes live bands and DJ nights across rock and beyond. It is a drinker's room built around a stage. Check the calendar before you go. Best on a gig night rather than a quiet midweek pour.

Storyville Jazz Club

Storyville opened in 1993 by Töölönlahti and ranks among Europe's better jazz rooms, with live music every night. The stage runs classic jazz through blues, country and salsa, and a street bar and summer terrace sit alongside. It is jazz first, late and warm. Order a beer and take a table near the stage. Best for a nightly set, not a passing drink.

Kuudes Linja

Kuudes Linja sits at Hämeentie 13 in Kallio, a dark club and live room with a wide booking of local and touring bands and DJs. The program leans electronic and underground, with gigs running through summer 2026. It is the late stop, not the first. Come after midnight when the floor fills. Best for the underground end of a Kallio night.

Juttutupa

Juttutupa has run in Hakaniemi since 1911, a granite beer hall with a long line in blues and folk on its stage. The kitchen sends hearty Finnish plates and the room draws a mixed, local crowd. It is the early, grounded option on this list. Order a beer with the food and stay for the set. Best for a relaxed start before Kallio.
